If you're a player of GTA IV or GTA V, you may have learned to create custom characters for your game. In these games, the voice of the character is determined by what voice files are placed in a folder called "sounds\\char\\speech" in the installation directory. This blog post will explore what can be found within this folder and how it may be used. A majority of the sounds that populate this folder are from Grand Theft Auto IV's speech files, but many others can also be found there, such as ambient conversations between pedestrians and police officers. Many different phrases can be heard from these sound clips which include comments about player actions such as murder or carjacking. This suggests that these ambient conversations have been left in the game files while the speech of many characters has been removed. The most notable character with unused speech is Maria Latore, who is voiced by Alessia Cara and can be heard in the "sounds\\char\\speech\\mariachi" folder. Maria is the girlfriend of protagonist Niko Bellic and can be found in a mission titled "I'll Take Her". In this mission Maria becomes upset with Niko for failing to protect her and leaves him. Unused subtitles attached to this mission suggest that Maria would eventually forgive Niko and ask him to call her sometime later on in the story, but never do so because of his death. Despite having the same dialogue as Maria, Niko's son Roman also has unused speech files. This can be heard between missions, such as "Free Fall" and "What Are Our Goals?". In this mission, Roman expresses longing for his father and mentions he wants to grow up with him. He also tells his mother that he is not ready to be a father yet, but she assures him otherwise. These will not play unless the player unlocks all of the challenges in GTA IV. Oddly enough, several character models have unused lines. For example, Luis Lopez has two unused files with dialogue that are present between missions. This dialogue speaks of his house in South Bohan and his family life. Another example would be the female stripper, who has lines about her job in the game that are never played. Other files in this folder include ambient conversations between pedestrians and police officers. These were likely meant to be removed from the game, but they still remain within the game's installation files. Here are some examples: As can be seen, these were supposed to be removed from Grand Theft Auto IV before release, but did not make it out of development for unknown reasons. Overall, these unused sounds show that Rockstar did create more content for Grand Theft Auto IV than what was released. This suggests that Grand Theft Auto IV was not finished; it seems that dialogue, ambient voiceovers, and additional models were all cut by the developers. After these files were initially cut, they remained in the game's installation folder like all other sound files. The file "sounds/char/prisons_intro_2.wav" shows the player is about to be imprisoned at some point in the game's story.
The original post has since been updated with videos showing both unused and unused model lines. https://www.rockstargames. gta 4 speech rpf
